The historic site of Old Grand Port, Mauritius, Mascarene Islands. In 1638 Simonsz Gooyer, the first Dutch Governor of Mauritius, built a fort here named Fort Frederik Hendrik. After the Dutch abandoned Mauritius in 1710 the French colonized the island. The ruins seen today, date from the French era, having been built over the original Dutch buildings.
