Two Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway locomotives lead an intermodal freight train around a curve on its eastward journey toward Illinois. The highly active stretch of tracks supports heavy freight traffic between Chicago, the Midwest and points west to Southern California. The line also is home to Amtrak passenger trains between Chicago and Los Angeles. The BNSF crosses the Mississippi River from Iowa into Illinois at Fort Madison.
