He wasa descendant in the sixth generation of General Peter-Schanck, a brother of the cele-brated General Mathew Schanck. Captain Schancks father died when the Captain wascomparatively young, and the latter was obliged to undertake the labors of the farmvery early in life. Later he learned the fullers trade and after that during hisactive life was extensively engaged in weaving. Soon after his marriage with MarieDe Nice in 1767, he bought and settled on the farm in Pleasant Valley adjoining his.
