. The Varsity war supplement 1917. hich shehas treasured.—President Wilson. THE VARSITY MAGAZINE SUPPLEMENT The Training of Overseas Forces in the University Buildings THE University of Toronto has always been ready toextend to the military authorities any assistance whichmight facilitate the training of troops. Particularlyhave the buildings and grounds been of use to theRoyal Flying Corps and to the School of Infantry, the staffof which is at present atNiagara-on-the-Lake, A. D. LePan,, in charge of thePolish Concentration Campthere. Pending the return ofthese officers, most of whomare on the staff of the Univ-ersity, Major G. N. Bramfitt,, is in charge of aTraining Depot for non-com-missioned officers to supplythese ranks to Depot Battal-ions, and to which the Univ-ersity gives lecture rooms, parade grounds and North Residence forstudents in Devonshire Placenow provides sleeping accom-modation and offices for thisunit. In close proximity tothe campus, which is used as a. Training Officers at University parade ground, Examination Hall provides ample space formessing. The Militia Department has constructed a kitchenagainst the west wall of the building and provides the neces-sary gas and water; the University lends the building andkeeps it heated. As accommodation for lec-tures is difficult to obtain inmost training camps, theTraining Depot is particu-larly fortunate in havingplaced at its disposal lecturerooms in the Medical Build-ing, large enough to receiveits entire number. Althoughthe work of the caretakersmust thereby be considerablyincreased, no charge is madeby the University for thisconcession. It is highly appropriatethat the instructional workin the district should be carriedon in the University Build-ings, a privilege greatly ap-preciated by all now in train-ing there.
