Tambiir, , , Swahili. Distinguished from the typical waterbuck by the general presenceof a large white patch on the lower part of the buttocks, instead of awhite elliptical ring extending higher up. Several local races of thisspecies have been named. First, the West African or sing - sing{C. d. unctuosiis), of Senegal, Nigeria, etc., characterised by its rufouscolour and the small amount of white in the region of the eye. Second,Crawshays defassa {C. d. crawshajn), from British Central Africa, with adusky coloration and shorter horns. Third, the Angola defassa {C. d.
