A model 1808 general's hat, of the style worn before 1816 A cocked hat of black mohair silk. Contrary to regulation, the rim is decorated with black ostrich feather. Silver bullion filled tips. Lyonese metal star clasp (button missing) above a black-white ribbed silk cockade. Leather sweatband. White silk lining (possible later addition?). Beautiful condition with light signs of wear and age. The right brim has a small crack. This style of hat was worn until 1848, however the star clasp was replaced by a bullion clasp in 1816 after 1 May, by order of His Majest,
