Pteranodon (Pteranodon sternbergi), artwork. Male Pteranodon sternbergi (left) with harem of females. Pteranodon lived during the Late Cretaceous, 88-80 million years ago. Males had a wingspan of up to seven metres. Females were smaller, with three metre wingspans. Males had a large head crest which is thought to have been used as a sexual display.
