Illustration of Saturn by the British astronomer and chemist, Warren de la Rue (born 1815) in 1856. Despite his many achievements in the field of chemistry, such as the invention of the silver chloride battery, de la Rue is best known for his pioneering astrophotography. He built his own 13-inch reflector telescope with a focal length of 10 feet and set up the telescope at home. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1851 and commenced a long series of astronomical publications with a drawing of Saturn.
