An Ottoman kilij, circa 1800. Beautifully shaped, wootz-Damascus blade, the point broadening and double-edged, fullers on both sides and a T-shaped, reinforced and chiselled back. There are gold-inlaid arabesques at the base of the blade on both sides with a (somewhat worn) tughra on the obverse side. The quillons are punched in floral designs. The grip frame is of gilded brass with two horn grip scales. Wire-sewn, shagreen leather-covered wooden scabbard with a trophy bundle on a matt background and stippled, gilded brass mountings.
