Figure 31 illustrates by curves the absolute maximum, mini-mum, and average temperatures at Wheeling for 1^/2 years. Tables VI and VII give the maximum and minimum re-corded temperatures at Wellsburg for seven years, and NewCumberland for six years. The maximum temperature recordedat Wellsburg was 940, July 1, 1901, and the temperature was900 or over in only six months of the 84. The minimum tempera-ture recorded at this station was 9 degrees below zero on Febru-ary 3, 1905. In January below zero temperatures were recordedin four years of the seven; in February, six years with a zero WEST VIRGINIA GEOLOGICAL SURVEY. 323 temperature in the seventh; in December, one year of the seven,and the thermometer registered below zero in March, 1901.
