Lenotre, the well-known French historian, was one of the candidates for the seat in the Académie Française left vacant by the death of Victorien Sardou, and was third in the final ballot. The other candidates were M. Marcel Prévost, the novelist, who was elected; the philosopher, M. Boutroux; and M. Edouard Drumont, the Anti-Semite journalist'. From "Illustrated London News", 1909.
