Explorer 24 satellite. This 12-foot () diameter inflatable sphere (a balloon satellite) was developed at Langley Research Center, Virginia, USA. Launched on 21 November 1964 and inflated in orbit, it provided information on the relationship between solar radiation and air density in Earth's upper atmosphere. The mission was named Atmospheric Density-B or the second Air Density Explorer. Data was recorded until 18 October 1968 when it decayed from orbit. Photographed on 28 September 1964.
