GARTNERIAN CYSTS. A large experience of ovarian and parovarian cysts hasserved to convince me that many papillomatous cysts havean origin independent of the paroophoron. A careful study Gaitneis Duct. Fig. 274.—Uterine segment of a cows vagina, showing two large cysts developedin the terminal segment of Gartners duct. {Museum, Royal College of Surgeons.) of the relations of these cysts shows that many of themburrow deeply by the side of the uterus, and even extendalong the wall of the vagina. It is known that Gartners duct occasionally persists inwomen, and after leaving the parovarium it traverses thelayers of the mesometrium and runs down the side of theuterus to reach the vagina. As it approaches the cervix, it isoften embedded in its tissue. Evidence is slowly accumulating in support of the opinion GARTNERIAN GY8TS 519 that some papillomatous cysts of the mesometrmm, especiallythose which burrow deeply by the side of the uterus, arise inpersistent portions of Gartners duct, near its arising in the lowest segment of this duct occasionallybulge into the vagina. The cystic tendencies of Gartners duct can easily bestudied in cows (Fig. 274). In these animals the
