Bags of whelks landed at Amlwch, Anglesey

Bags of whelks landed at Amlwch, Anglesey. Whelks have become a significant commercial catch again after stocks had been heavily damaged by Tributyltin - or TBT - used in anti-fouling paint which wreaked havoc in the marine environment and in the particular case of this scavenging sea snail, distorting its reproductive capability. TBT was banned by many countries under the Rotterdam Convention of 1998.
