A memorial to Thomas Telford, Salt Island, Holyhead, Anglesey. This is one of several such memorials along the London to Holyhead Road ( A5 ) placed by the Institution of Civil Engineers to mark Telford's 250th birthday. The road itself was built as a toll road between 1810 and 1826 to speed up the coach journey from London to Ireland.
