M100 spiral galaxy. Optical image of the core of spiral galaxy M100 (or NGC 4321) made by the Wide Field and Planetary Camera (WFPC-2) of the Hubble Space Telescope following the 1993 servicing mission. M100 is a class Sc I spiral, part of the Virgo supercluster, and is seen in the direction of the constellation Coma Berenices. It is thought to be about 50 million light years from Earth. Compare this image with R820/242, taken before the servicing mission with the original Wide Field and Planetary Camera, WFPC-1.
