The US Essex Class carrier USS Bunker Hill (CV-17) at sea in 1945. The ship was badly damaged by two kamikaze strikes in one minute on 11 May 1945 at Okinawa. he strike caught fully fuelled and armed planes on deck and started very dangerous fires. Though heavily damaged the ship did not sink and returned to the USA for repair. The ship was decommissioned in 1966 and scrapped in 1973.
