The Agent of the Emory and Henry College report-ed that during the year he had raised for the collegeonly $1, in solvent notes. The Committee on Education reported that Thad-deus P. Thomas had resigned the presidency of Straw-berry Plains College, and that the trustees had electedto fill the place the Rev. James S. Kennedy, of the Vir-ginia Conference; and the Bishop was requested totransfer him to the Holston Conference. At this session the trustees of the Athens FemaleCollege tendered that property to the CA. X 5 c O z oofrwow 212 HOLSTON METHODISM. They had bought the property from the McMinnLodge of Odd Fellows for thirty-five hundred property consisted of two acres of ground adjoin-ing the town of Athens, Tenn., and a three-story brickbuilding, 60x40 feet, not completed. To pay for theproperty the trustees had in hand an available sub-scription of money amounting to more than the costof the property. They did not ask the Conference toassume any pecuniary liability, but requested the ap-pointment of a President and Agent to raise two thou-sand dollars for the completion of the building. Theyfurthermore expressed a purpose to purchase two ad-ditional acres of land on which to erect a boardinghouse. This tender was made through the Rev. Sew-ell Philips, and was accepted by the Conference, al-though the minutes show no appointment of either aPresident or an Agent. The Conference entered upon anot
