Biomethane plant. View of the exterior of the UK's first commercial scale anaerobic digester and biomethane-to-grid plant, showing the post fermenter (domed building), which stores fermented digestate and biogas. This plant produces biogas (by fermentation in a digester) from renewable sources, namely: locally-grown maize and food industry wastes from processing potatoes, chocolate and cereals. The resulting gas (methane) is cleaned, compressed and fed into the gas grid (unlike most biogas derived from vegetable sources that is used to generate electricity). Photographed at Rainbarrow Farm, Poundbury, Dorset, UK.
