The Queensland Elephant Beetle, Xijlotrapes atisfraliciis, in the larval state feeds upon decaying vegetable matter, from which the beetles emerge and climb up the first tree to hand, and upon which they cling during the day, but come buzzing round to the lamps at night. The male measures 2 inches in length; is of a uniform black colour; the head curves out in front into a double- pronged horn; and the front of the thorax is produced into a second swollen one curving downward over the horns on the head, arcuate and toothed on either side of the tip.
