The Hawaii Royal Guard celebrates its 43rd anniversary during a ceremony Nov. 5, 2006, at the Iolani Palace in Honolulu, Hawaii. In Nov. 16, 1963, King Kalakaua's Birthday was chosen as the original day of creation of the Royal Guard. Today the Royal guard is made up of volunteers from the Hawaii National Guard with Hawaiian ancestry and they participate in state functions and post guards to the entrances of Queen Lilioukalani's Palace during state ceremonies.
