There has been a steady growth ofthe business, new buildings have been added, steam-power substituted for water-power, and labor-savingmachinery invented and introduced, until a capacityof tanning more than a million skins annually hasbeen attained, giving employment to about one hundredand fifty men, with a monthly pay-roll of from fiveto six thousand dollars.
