Lavender half-moon dumbo male, "flaring" at his reflection. He raises his gill-cover during flaring which makes him look larger to an imposter. Fish do not have eyelids. So as not to startle or damage the animal's eyes, I never use flash when photographing fish. Lighting is by LEDs at the top of the tank. For images, the fish is put into a heated clean show-tank for no more than 15 minutes. If the fish shows stress, it is removed back to it's tank immediately.
