Light micrograph of a longitudinal section through a 41 bass guitar string. This steel based string consists of a central wire with an additional steel wire wound closely around it. A short section of the guitar string was embedded in light curing resin and then ground and diamond polished to match the middle of the longitudinal oriented string. Microscopic contrast technique : Incident differential interference contrast. Magnification 100x when printed 10 centimetres wide.
