He attracted themerchants by his many and positive assertions of capability, and he remainedwith the house for eleven years, being successively promoted through thevarious grades of clerkship, not leaving until the firm was dissolved in1867. He then was sought out as treasurer by the Arlington Woolen Mills,for which the firm of R. M. Bailey & Co. were the selling agents, and ofwhich Mr. Bailey was president.
