The black dorsal band on abdomen widened both on the third and fourth segments and generally more widened than in the male. Length 6 to nearly 8 mm. The larva is lighter or darker brownish with different longitudinal stripes or markings: on the dorsal side it is rather densely haired with short, depressed hairs, on the ventral side the middle space of the segments have somewhat longish hairs. The length is IG mm. This species may vary somewhat with regard to the breadth of the dorsal abdominal band, but all the specimens I have seen from Denmark belong to the variety viridula with an uninterrupted dorsal band; the other varieties, varying with regard to the dorsal band, which is sometimes quite absent, or only a basal spot present, or
