Above this the bone forms the shallow iliac fossa, from the floor of which the iliacus muscle arises, whilst leading from the fossa, below and in front, there is a shallow furrow, passing over the superior acetabular margin, between the anterior inferior iliac spine on the lateral side and the ilio-pectineal eminence medially, for the lodgment of the tendinous and fleshy part of the ilio-psoas muscle.
