Doogue, Odorata Eugenia de Land, pink; Marliacea chromatella, Odorata sulphurea, yellow; Robinsoni, Sioux, Paul Harlot, yellow and red; Gloriosa, deep carmine rose; James Brydon, rosy crimson; Marliacea rubra punc- tata, rosy purple; Ignia, deep car- mine; Wm. Falconer, bright garnet. Some good tender nymphaeas, day- blooming, are the following : Cacilio, white; Mrs. C. W. Ward, deep rose pink; Zanzibariensis. deep purple; Rosea, rose pink; Wm. Stone, violet blue; PulCherrima, light blue. Tender nymphsas (night-blooming) : Deutata magnifica, white; Omarana, reddish pink; Deaniana, pink; Rubea, bright red; George Huster, crimson; Bisseti, rose pink. The-above varieties are all desirable for small or large ponds or for cut- ting. Also the nelumbriums in white, pink and carmine, both single and double flowers. Where space will al- low sub-aquatic plants make the best setting in the planting of the water garden. In sections south of New York several species of bamboo are perfectly hardy and lend a graceful and sub-tropical appearance unequaled by any other plant. The marsh mal- lows, the native species and the new crimson varieties, are very desirable, the different forms of astilbe, especial- ly A. Davidii and A. grandis, with tall graceful spikes of white and rosy violet color, also the many gorgeous varieties of Japanese iris, Lillum su- perbum and Canadense, the dazzling brilliant cardinal flower and blue Lobelia suphllitica. Nowhere else save in moist or wet ground can thallc- trums be seen in their true character, tall, graceful and rich, with an abund- ance of white flowers. Senecios are comparatively new
