Carved stone water spouts catch the early rays of dawn at a temple in Nepal

This picture depicts one of the nine water spouts at the Naudhara Kunda a temple at Godawari dedicated to Ganesh the elephant headed Hindu god. Each spout represents one of the 9 streams that run off Pulchoki the large hill that rises up behind the temple to 2700m making it the highest hill on the rim of the Kathmandu valley. This was taken early morning February 2005. Each spout is carved in the shape of a mythological creature and the running water from them is used for drinking and washing by the local people
