He received amost liberal education, hav-ing been kept diligently at sclioolfrom the time he was five years ofage. In 1760 he entered Williamend Mary College. Williamsburg was then the seatof the Colonial Court, and it was the obodeof splendor. Young Jefferson, who was then 17years old, lived somewhat expensively, keeping finehorses, and much caressed by gay society, yet he•was earnestly devoted to his studies, andirreproacha-able in his morals. It is strange, however, undersuch infliiences,that he was not ruined.
