Phareodus fish fossil. Phareodus is a primitive bony fish. Its fossil remains are nearly all found in the Green River Formation, Wyoming, USA. This formation dates to around 50 million years ago, during the Eocene Epoch. Living relatives of this extinct fish are found in tropical waters in South America, Africa and Asia. This specimen is 50 centimetres long.
