Dillinger: Public Enemy

Dillinger: Public Enemy (Midland Film Co., 1934). After public outcry that the government's shooting a man in the back while leaving a movie theater was cowardly, J. Edgar Hoover commissioned this propagandic newsreel to make the FBI's killing of John Dillinger more heroic. This is a reproduction of the rare poster to be distributed independently around the country. John Herbert Dillinger (June 22, 1903 – July 22, 1934) was an infamous American gangster in the Depression-era United States. He operated with a group of men known by some as the Dillinger Gang or Terror Gang, which was accused of robbing 24 banks and four police stations, among other activities.
