There is no mechanical union betweenthe upper and the lower parts of the ar-ticulator. These are held in relation toeach other simply by a spring, thus im-parting to the articulator the peculiarswing that the mandible possesses, with-out any mechanical interference or hin-drance. Last but not least, by using the nat-ural condyle traveling in its naturalmandibular fossa, we have both the hingeand the rotation points, together with Fig. the lateral swing. These three features, together with the spring union mentionedabove, constitute an adjustable mechan-ical device capable of imitating thehuman masticatory apparatus in eachand every case, and capable of reprodu-cing each and every peculiarity. Technique of use of the the bite-plate with its respectivemouthpiece has been placed in arm the other adjustments of the face-how have been made according to therecords of the case, we adjust the articu-lator to these measurements, and placethe face-bow pointers on points to catchon the condyles of the articulator, andmount the casts as seen in Fig. 21. Theface-bow and mouthpiece are removed, and the wax plates restored to theirformer outline, if they have been marredin this operation. All screws should be 550 THE DENTAL COSMOS. firmly set. To obtain the incline planefor the articulation, we place a wax coneas near the heel of the lower bite-plateas we can. The two bite-plates are int
