Produces a large white head and withstands heat. The leaves are thick, dark green tinged with brown and spotted. The interior of head is rich golden-yellow and quality very fine. This is the Lettuce that is served at the best hotels and restaurants under the name of "Romaine ; It differs from ordinary Lettuce by the shape of the leaves, which are elongated, spoon-shaped and very crisp. It is grown in the same manner as Cabbage Lettuce, but does not make a solid head.
