Memorial to Mungo Park. First European to discover the direction of flow of the Niger River. This memorial marks the point near where Mungo Park set off on his travels to the Niger (Joliba) River, in 1795, and 1806. He stayed near this spot with a British trader at a place called Pisania, which now no longer exists.
