Flood barrier in Zeeland, Netherlands. This is part of the Deltaworks, which consists of dams, sluices, locks, dikes, and storm surge barriers that close off the Oosterschelde estuary. It was built after the North Sea floods of 1953 that killed 2000 people and was inspired by the levees installed along the Mississippi River, Louisiana, USA.
