Landing area for Mars rover Opportunity, April 2004. Approximate true-colour panorama, dubbed 'Lion King', showing 'Eagle Crater' and the surrounding plains of Meridiani Planum. It was obtained by the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) Opportunity's panoramic camera on expedition days (sols) 58 and 60. This panorama shows the rover's lander, and tracks showing its route as it examined the outcrop, studied the soils near the lander, climbed out of Eagle Crater and continued to rover's next destination, the large crater dubbed 'Endurance'. Opportunity landed on Mars on 25 January 2004. It operated for 15 years, having travelled over 45 kilometres across the surface of Mars. Image obtained on 14 April 2004.
