Nitrogen-fixing molybdenum iron enzyme, molecular model. This protein is a nitrogen fixation enzyme (nitrogenase) containing the metal atoms molybdenum and iron. This protein, found in the soil-dwelling bacterium Azotobacter vinelandii, is used to ensure the electron transfer required for fixation of dinitrogen gas (N2) into ammonia (NH3).
