The skin is a very dark green, almost black, and covered with knobs, upon jpjBC which the opines set. which gives the pickles a .-T^ very attractive appear- ance. They are vers- early and prolific. As a cu- cumber for slicing, it is splendid. Japanese Climbing Cucum- ber—This is a strong and vigor- ous grow er, the vines attaining nearly twice the length of com- mon varieties. The young plants are bushy, but as soon as they i ecome well established they begin to climb, and may be grown on fences, poles or . trellises, thus saving much val- uable space in small gardens or where laud is dear. It is esti- mated that with this Cucum- ber the product of a given area can be increased three-fold. The fruits are from 10 to 12 inches in length, of a fine green color, the flesh is thick and firm, never bitter, and fine for pickling as well as slicing. It is very prolific, and the traits being raised wellalnive the ground, never suffer from wet weather or insects: proof against mil- dew ; bear till late.
