This flute was brought to St. Louis in the late 1830s by physician John B. McDowell when he moved to St. Louis from Baltimore. He continued to practice medicine in St. Louis until he died of cholera in 1868. The flute was made by Richard Potter of London. Title: Boxwood Flute of Dr. John B.
