It was,of course, gratifying to Mr. Irving in one way, al-though he expressed his regret that so good a neigh-bor as Mr. Dearman should be thus supplanted, andhe wrote to Mr. George D. Morgan and JohnE. Williams. A new and finely-appointed pnhlie-school edificewas erected on F Street in 1S72, the land and build-ing costing about forty thousand dollars. The schoolemploys seven teachers. The village is supplied with water by the Irving-ton Water-Works, completed May I, 1884. Thewater is derived from an artesian well six hundredfeet deep. The reservoir into which the water ispumped covers an area of almost an acre, and istwenty feet deep. The capacity of the reservoir iseight million gallons, equal to a supply for all theCitizensof 1 rvington for twohundred days. It affordsal
