STOCK SCARCE. The weather has been about the worst possible from the florists' standpoint, as with scarcely any sun flowers do not open and the severe storms keep the customers indoors. There have been quite a few weddings and other social functions incident to this midwinter sea- son which have used up most of the stock coming in, but in general trade has been quiet. American Beauty roses have been very scarce and in consequence high in price. Five to $9 is the price per dozen for anything worth having and the order must be placed the day be- fore or better if there is any anxiety as to its being filled. Teas and the red roses are also all cleaned up every day at prices ranging from $12 to $25 per 100. Good Enchantress carnations have moved up to $8, as have also some of the other fancies, and almost any kind brings $4. Sweet peas are coming in nicely, 75 cents to $1 being the price. They are much improved the past two weeks. White lilac sells well and is a staple with the best stores. There is now plenty of good mignonette at from $3 to $8 per 100. It sells well and helps out the roses nicely. Easter lilies and callas are in good demand at $12. Bulb- ous stock is now in good supply and of standard quality, the defective flowers and pale green foliage of the early forc- ing lots giving place to clean healthy stock that shows full count to the bunch; $3 to $4 is the price. Violets have been scarce but prices remain the same. Free- sia is fine and plentiful and finds ready sale. While cut flowers are so dear there seems a good demand for bloom- ing plants which in many instances are subs
