Church of St Merri, or St Mederic (Rue St Martin)
The view taken in 1828, shows the Church of St Merri, or St Mederic (Rue St Martin). In the 5th century there was a chapel on the site dedicated to St Peter. St Mederic, corrupted to St Merri was buried in the chapel so Louis de Debonnaire named it after him. It was part of the chapter of Notre Dame for some time. The present Gothic building was built in 1519. There are fine paintings inside of St Merri by Vouet and the Virgin and Infant by Carloo Vanloo. The brothers Slodtz painted the inside. The image was drawn by A Shaw under the direction of A Pugin and engraved by J Havell
