One of the main buildings at Puu Jih Shih Temple Sandakan Sabah Malaysia

Chinese temples, whether dedicated to Buddhism or Taoism (and many are often dedicated to both) and whether in China or southeast Asia, are always highly elaborate, with red columns, orange roof tiles and fanciful carvings of dragons and other mythical figures adorning the buildings. As this image shows, Puu Jih Shih Temple (also romanised as Puri Shi), in the town of Sandakan, in the Malaysian state of Sabah, Borneo, is no exception.
