SUBSTITUTE USED IN TRAINING FOR THE "FOUGASSES" FLAME THROWER - An earthenware pipe is buried in the ground at a range of 45�. The lower end is sealed with cement and the pipe filled with water. A small charge of gunpowder is put in an ordinary toy balloon is then lowered into the pipe and the charge is fired with an ordinary 6 v. battery. The charge on explosion ejects the water as does the 'Fougasse"oil Flame Thrower. This is entirely a training weapons and is to be used by the Home Guard. Photographic negative , British Army
