A very simple device for operating the es-capement of a secondary clock from a centralstation. 266 HOROLOGICAL, TIME DEVICES, 698. SOLAR AND SIDEREAL CLOCK. Firmly secured on asolid base of metal are two regulators, each having a one-second mercurial pendulum. One of the pendulums is regulatedto mean solar time and the other to sidereal time, the dial of the latter being divided into 24 hoursand that of the former into 12 hours. The es-cape-wheel shaft of each clock is long enoughto reach out through the dial plate, and on theouter part is fitted, with a slight friction, a the inner ends of these sleeves are the bev-eled wheels, c d, of 90 teeth each, and their outerends carry pointers indicating seconds on thedial plates. Engaging with these v heels arebeveled pinions, of 30 teeth each, mounted onthe lower ends of the long shafts, a b, which arecarried up at an angle of about 45 degrees andconnected with a differential motion controllingthe works and hands of a larger dial placedabove the two others. This peculiar motionis constructed of a light shaft, h, on which isfastened at right angles a cross
