Albert Sidnc-y Johnston, who hadassumed command, decided to winter on Blacks Fork, near Fort Bridger. In the 117 spring of 1858 they prepared to move on Salt Lake City, but, meantime, an vmder-standing had been arrived at between the government and the heads of the church,and the threatened conflict was avoided.
