Bavarian alpine cows grazing in the high mountain pastures in summer (transhumance). Alpine transhumance is the seasonal droving of livestock between valleys in the winter and mountain pastures in the summer. Most alpine cows in Bavaria and Austria are Fleckvieh cattle first bread in 1830 from Simmental cattle imported from Switzerland. Cows or cattle are mammals belonging to the ungulates group - mammals that have hoofs. Bavaria is an independent state in southern Germany.
