Nursery stock Pennsylvania Philadelphia Catalogs; Vegetables Seeds Catalogs; Flowers Seeds Catalogs; Agricultural implements Catalogs. ARTICHOKE The 5est and Cheapest Hog food i^nown •Sutton's Colossal Artichoke It is without question the greatest root hog fattener in the world. Its yield is so enor- mous, bordering on the fabulous, that one can scarcely believe the quantity that can be grown Irom an acre of our Colos>al Artichokes Farmers who have given them athorough trial the past year report yieldsfrom 400 to t,2co bushels per acre. We cannot too strongly urge upon everyfarmer to plant a barrel or more this spring. Plant the Artichokes where you can allow them to remain, and yourhogs, if turned into them, will grow fat and healthy, and will not know what sick- ness is. They need not be dug in the fall; -the hogs should be turned in on them, and will help themselves by rooting for them One acre will keep from 20 to 30 head in fine condition from ('ctober until April, except when the ground isfrozen too hard for them to root. They are also sai i to be apreven- tive of cholera and other hog d senses; and they are also h'ghly recommei ded for milch cows, increasing the yield of milk and at the same time improving their con- dition. They are well adapted to any soil where .Corn or Potatoes can be grown. One barrel will seed an acre, though we prefer 3 barrels on 2arres,and they should be cut the same as Potatoes, one eye to a cut being sufficient planted in April or May, in rows 3 feet apart and 2 feet in the rows, and covered about 2 inches deep. To destr y them, they should be plowed under when the plant is a">out a foot high, at which time the old tuber has decayed and new ones are not yet fo med. They are not injured by freezing while in the ground Lb. 85c., 3 lbs. , postpaid; by freijjht or express, qt. 15c., pk. 90c., bu. ,
