Staff Sgt. Bryan Nelson, 802nd Security Forces Squadron training NCO and Air Force wounded warrior, was injured while deployed to Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan after coming into contact with a suicide bomber in December 2015. Nelson sustained second and third degree burns to nearly 50 percent of his body, a broken tibia, shrapnel wounds, a torn Achilles tendon and a traumatic brain injury from the explosion.
